David E. Beatty
CEO and Chairman, Canarm Ltd.
David E. Beatty is the chief executive officer and chairman of Canarm Ltd, a leading world marketer and manufacturer of fans, lighting and related environmental products for the residential, commercial and agricultural industries. In 2003, Canarm was selected as one of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies.
Beatty has been involved in the Brockville community all his life. Raised in Brockville, Beatty is a graduate of Brockville Collegiate Institute (BCI). After receiving a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Western Ontario, he began his career in 1971 as controller of Danor Manufacturing Ltd., a company that would later evolve into Canarm in 1980.
For the last three decades Beatty has affiliated himself with countless community organizations. He was a member of the Brockville Kiwanis Club from 1974-2008, served as a distinguished past president from 1979-1980 and received the Mel Osborne Fellow in 1999. He was president of the Brockville and Area YMCA from 1982-1984, and is a founding director of the newly established Brockville YMCA Foundation. Beatty continues to play an active role with the YMCA in both fundraising campaigns and advisory committees. Beatty was governor of the Brockville General Hospital from 1990-2000 (chairman from 1995-1997), and a trustee of the Brockville General Hospital Foundation from 1995-2004 (chairman 1997-1999). From 1999-2005 Beatty served as director of Grenville Christian College. He has been deeply involved with St. Lawrence College as governor from 2000-2006 (chairman from 2003-2005), and with the St. Lawrence College Foundation from 2003-2009 (chairman 2005-2007).
Beatty was an original inductee of the BCI Hall of Excellence in 2003, named Brockville Citizen of the Year in 2004, and received an honorary diploma from St. Lawrence College for community leadership. He supports numerous local causes and has been an active volunteer leader and generous contributor for several capital fundraising campaigns. Recent donations include contributions to the Thousand Islands Secondary School (TISS) Track Project and the Civitan Skatepark.
Beatty is married with three children. He enjoys golfing, boating and a new-found interest as a grandfather.
Beatty is an avid supporter of the Upper Canada District School Board Champions for Kids Foundation because he believes that providing children with the funding they need for extracurricular activities and health care can help improve their learning capacity and quality of life.
