15th annual golf tournament

More than 160 golfers, volunteers and community members, came together in support of the 15th annual Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) Champions for Kids Foundation (C4K)’s golf tournament.

After a COVID-19 hiatus, the annual fundraiser returned on July 5 to the Mississippi Golf Club. Through registrations, donated silent and live auction items from local businesses and community members, and a 50/50 draw, early numbers are showing that the event raised approximately $45,000 for the Foundation.

“This event is generally our biggest event of the year and after two years without the tournament, people were excited to get back on the greens and raise money for our students in need,” says Casey Nelson, president of the Champions for Kids Foundation. “We continue to be impressed by the amount of support, passion, and community that is shown for C4K. That unwavering support remained strong throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and as the need for financial assistance from families continues, we are thankful, through the support of our donors, we are able to offer that help.”

Thousands of students within the UCDSB have benefited from C4K since its inception in 2008. Since then, the Foundation raised more than $2 million.

The funds help level the playing field for UCDSB students and their families, with a focus on aiding children to participate in summer camps, sports, dance lessons, and other activities that help them thrive outside the classroom.

The Foundation also helps families with unexpected costs or when they’re in need of extra support, providing items such as eyeglasses, EpiPens, and warm clothing during the winter.

The C4K Foundation thanks its sponsors, as the success of this event is reliant on the support of the community:
