April 1, 2022 (Cornwall, ON) – Viscount Alexander Public School raised $700 for the Champions for Kids (C4K) foundation by holding a Valentine’s Day fundraiser in February.
This event, named the Champions 4 Kids “Sweet” Valentine’s Day Fundraiser, was organized by Grade 6 student MacKenzie Lauzon.
“I went to a store and purchased candy with my own money. Starting on Valentine’s Day, I sold candy around the school,” says Lauzon.
Between February 14-25, Lauzon sent a sign-up sheet to classes, and students indicated which treat they wanted to buy for $1 each. The total amount raised by candy sales was just shy of $700, so Lauzon decided to use her own money top up the total to reach her goal.
“It’s important to have fundraisers like this to show kindness to others,” says Lauzon.
All proceeds are being donated to the Upper Canada District School Board C4K Foundation. This foundation helps students be able to get involved in extra-curricular activities in their community, as well as unexpected family or medical costs.
“MacKenzie demonstrated kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness through her initiative,” says Principal Lorelee Hamilton. “She is a positive role model for her classmates and inspires us all to do better and be better.”
This is the third time Lauzon has organized a fundraiser at her school. Previously, she has donated the school-based Viscount Cares fund, where proceeds help Viscount Alexander PS families in need.
