(Brockville) - TD Canada Trust has donated $1,000 to the Upper Canada District School Board Champions for Kids Foundation to help pay for a child to play organized hockey.
Lisa Tyo, the Branch Manager at TD Canada Trust Brockville Shopping Centre branch, says the bank had a partnership with the Brockville Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Network's inaugural Brockville Winter Classic held February 8, 2015 at Rotary Park.
Although the purpose of the
event, tagged "Raise the Rotary Park Roof," was to raise money for a new
roof over the Old Memorial ice rink, Tyo says the bank wanted the event
to benefit a charity as well.
"The two Brockville branches,
as well as the Prescott and Kemptville branches wanted to provide the
opportunity for an underprivileged child to play hockey," she says.
"Since this event had a hockey focus, it just made sense to connect with
Champions for Kids and give a child an opportunity to play."
Champions for Kids Foundation President Carole Dufort says she is thrilled about TD’s donation.
“We are grateful to TD for
their generous donation,” she says. “Their support for our children and
our community is greatly appreciated.”
Formed in 2008, the Champions
for Kids Foundation helps level the playing field for children of
struggling families. It gives them a helping hand to meet their
children's medical needs, and allow their kids to participate in
sporting events, the arts, and other fun activities outside of school
hours. To date, the Foundation has raised over $1 million.
